Virgin's 'open female mouth' urinals are dropped

Virgin Atlantic is dropping plans for urinals shaped like a woman's open mouth at toilets in its new clubhouse at New York's JFK Airport.

A spokesman for the company said they'd received complaints about the urinals that were designed by Dutch company, Bathroom Mania

so it's one of a heck of a Marketing stunt!

I'm sure there are lots of people that wouldn't mind having them in their private homes.

I'm not talkin' ur regular ma n pa types.

Some people spend tens of thousands of dollars just on a bathroom.

I saw some pretty outrageous ones when I lived in CA, and that was over 20 years ago.

They don't belong in public places like airports city halls and so on, but I'm quite sure they'll get found in some of the more "liberal" nightclubs.

lots of people are now starting to put urinals in their homes...especially the newer McMansions that have lots of extra space and huge bathrooms already.
to settle the eternal battle of how the toilet seat should remain- up or down, urinals have become very trendy for the disposable income set.
and yes, I'll bet that this company will sell A LOT of these urinals to the general public.

why didn't they design it to look like a MAN's mouth, with a moustache or chin stubble? Just think of the reaction in a Men's restroom to that...makes it clear that the choice of a Woman's mouth is both sexual and hostile!

designing urinals/ toilets with some sort of target has been shown to cut down on maintenence/janitorial costs...

I remember reading of alot of money saved by painting an insect on the bottom of toilets at an airport.

personally find them all that ofefnsive, but that said just because something is designed/produced by a woman doesn't automatically save it from being sexist.

I AM a woman and if I say "all women should stay home and have babies and should not be allowed to work" it's a sexist statement regardless of whether it's uttered by a woman.

I think I'd probably just laugh when faced with this though - European (particularly Dutch) sensibilities are NOT the same as US ones.
