| who is the most homesick person you know? |
|
Working in Washington, DC, I have met a lot of people who are far away from their hometowns. Lots and lots of homesick people are around here -- although most of them are lawyers too busy to be homesick (or too proud to show a "weakness").
The most homesick person I know is Mrs. V. She's from eastern Tennessee, and I know that not a day goes by that she doesn't think of her mom, dad, brothers, and niece & nephew, and probably her aunts, uncles, and all her cousins, too -- not to mention Cades Cove, God's own retreat, in the Great Smoky Mountain National Park.
A close second would be yours truly.
Who's the most homesick person you know?

He's not from Texas. He's from New England, same as the rest of the BFEE.

those minutes away from the breeding stock just seem like hours! You can tell by his War Face, that he misses his Cow Poking and that Poultry in Motion thing he's got going, out on the back 40 in Crawford! This makes me think of the worn out video on my TV, of Shrub Chain Sawing on the range and trying to be more like a real cowboy than a pampered AWOL Cheerleader for big oil! Every move Bush makes on the farm with the camera rolling is cosmetic bullshit! I'm guessing that when Shrub is chain sawing his brains out on the ranch, that must be when GAWD tells him who to bomb next!
It's not just a ranch, it's a kind of high dollar Hidey Hole/Hunk of Heaven! If Bullshit belongs out on the range, and IMHO it does, then I guess Bush has really earned his stripes as a great cow poke!

My entire family and all my friends live on the west coast. I am a CA person, stuck in Jebbie hell of SW FL. I can't talk to anyone about anything. Luckily I have the internet and DU to help me maintain my sanity.

I really miss living with people who actually read and listen rather than focusing on having the newest and biggest SUV. I have given up trying to develop friendships with my neighbors. At least the meetups gave me a chance to meet a few people with similar values. We are in the minority, but at least we aren't completely alone.

Our neighbors across the street aren't grab-all-they-can dullards, and they are very, very friendly, but they're quite conservative. We're merely on waving terms with most of our other neighbors. Kathy's friends (she lived out here for 17 years before I moved) are all lovely, but most of them aren't interested in books or newspapers, let alone politics.
Southern Maryland is a very simple place with very simple -- but lovely -- people. Washington DC is quite a complex place, but people there are too intense, too wound up, too stressed, too angry, and they all move too god damned fast.
I miss the beach.

I have the beach - 2 miles away . I miss intellectual conversations. I miss discussions with other moms that admit their families aren't perfect. I love my hubby and son but some times I need to vent.
I feel as if I live in the State of Denial. People are hurting, they drive old cars and gripe about taxes or gas prices, but they still vote Repub. This will never be home, even though the ones I love live here.

Sure she's kind of fundamentalist, but she misses Zambia so much, she was there for 4 years and her family is still there. She watches stuff on the nature shows, and starts getting misty eyed! "Oh I remember the first time we saw baboons up close!" and "I miss the sound of zebras..."

Back in the mid 90's I lived in Austin, TX. for about 4 years with my now ex-girlfriend. After a while, I got so homesick for WV that it almost bordered on depression. I missed my family, friends and the mountains. So I moved myself and said ex back here. I really believe it caused the split with my ex (she was really unhappy here). I look back on my time in TX and realize it was one of the happiest periods of my life.
The sad thing is, now that I'm back here in WV, I wish I was back in Austin. I have been entertaining going back there, but I'm afraid to do it alone and that the homesickness will strike again.

when I worked in the Consolidated Base Personnel Office in the military, I processed the new arrivals. I was always struck by how badly the people from Oklahoma wanted to go back home.
