This is the poll to end all polls. A difficult question. Name the very best band/artist of the 1980s.

You knew the 80's was going to be a thrilling decade for popular music when these two acts burst on to the scene in 1980. Giants in soft rock, they set the tone for the 80's.

|
I grew up in that period, hated most of the music and was drawn more to the stuff of the 60's/70's. There were a few gems. U2, REM, The Replacements, The Talking Heads, The Police, Prince, Metallica and The Clash. Rap music including RUN DMC, Public Enemey and Ice T was probably some of the most innovative stuff. I despised most of the sappy, synthesized New Wave music but found The Cure tolerable.

|
they were around from like 1973 to 1991. Aerosmith isn't considered a seventies band, though they started at the same time as Queen (with the difference being the lead singer of Queen is dead, while Steve Tyler continues to ruin his reputation as a rock star).
By my "fuzzy math" they spent more time in the eighties than the seventies, and released far more songs in the eighties than the seventies.
