Growing up in Alabama, I always resented basketball because when we were paying attention to it, it was because there was no football and basketball was all there was. I went to the University of Alabama 1969-71 and I'll always be a Crimson Tide fan through and through, but it's been more than 30 years since I lived there and nobody I knew is even there any more and I thoroughly, utterly DESPISE and LOATHE the political climate in that state, and so I sometimes wonder why I give a s**t about the Crimson Tide any more. But I do, and I am so thrilled that they now have advanced to the Elite Eight for the first time ever. This is because I love the Crimson Tide and in spite of the fact that I hate basketball.

But it's exciting for the basketball team to have this success. Especially because of what the football program's been through lately. Hopefully, Coach Shula will lead us back to greatness, and this basketball season is a sign of things to come.
