The health department of San Antonio, Texas is forcing a local lingerie boutique to obtain a food license and have regular health inspections because it sells edible underwear, KENS 5 reports.
Well, that bites.
Rosemary Benitez, owner of Shades of Love, sells the naughty nibbles along with lingerie and adult toys, according to the news channel.
Now, she's reportedly being told to cough up $230 a year for the food permit to ensure that customers have a safe, er, dining experience.
"Everything is sold as novelty," Benitez balked to the source. "Everything in the box says 'novelty item' only... It's not something you sit down and actually eat.
"It's more for licking and tasting. Edible? No. It's not going to fill you up."
Well, actually... no, too easy.
Unfortunately, city officials aren't budging.
"Any facility in the city of San Antonio that sells edible substance requires a food establishment permit," San Antonio official Stephen Barschewski told KENS 5.
"One, it's the law. Two, in case there's a recall, we certainly want to know the source."
"I don't think you would actually eat, lick or taste enough of this that it would cause a big problem (as in food recalls)," counters Benitez. "It's absurd to me."
Maybe not, but we're definitely feeling a little nauseous just contemplating the whole thing.
