| I had a very nice date tonight. Things seem to be falling into place for me. |
|
I let my profile at the dating site go and did not visit there for a long time. Not too long ago, someone had checked me out and sent me a message. I went to the site and read her message and her profile. Based on that she seemed to be a good fit for me, so I e-mailed her and we started talking via e-mail and then on the phone. She's my age, cute, liberal, and intelligent. One deal breaker for several women that I have dated or who were potential dates was the mental illness that I have. I put it right in my profile after some crash and burns because of it to weed out those who had a problem with that sort of thing. My date told me that the fact that I put it out there up front was one of the things that drew her to me, that is, as long as I plan on staying in treatment, which I do. So, we got to go on a date tonight.
One thing that I thought might be a problem was that fact that she's a Christian and heavily involved in her church. I am not a religious person. I hadn't talked to her about it before the date, but I thought that I should bring it up while we were waiting for dinner. It turned out that she's an Episcopalian, which, from what I gather, is the rock-n-roll version of Christianity. She said that they were sort of like Catholics except that they were okay with homosexuality, female priests, and they allow priests to marry. Their minister is gay. She also said that she thought of the Bible in metaphorical terms and doesn't take it literally. I'm okay with that and she's okay with me.
After the date she asked me if anything had changed as far as wanting to see her goes and I said that it had not. She said the same.
Coincidentally, something good is happening at my job that might allow me more home time. I hadn't wanted it before now, but now I might have a reason to want to be home more. It looks like the terminal manager at my home terminal might need someone to run down to Florida on a regular basis. I ran one load earlier this week down there and right now I'm loading up on my second. This also would have the advantage of avoiding a lot of bad weather this winter. I might be able to get home two days a week doing this run.
Of course, this is all still in the conjecture stage- the woman and the run. But I'm feeling optimistic now days. :)

It wasn't a problem I had with anyone there from DU and I might be back there in a more anonymous way. If I do come back there I'll be sure to give you a holler.

| 15. Good for you, and she gave a pretty good description of the Episcopal church. |
|
It's both formal in ritual and somewhat liberal in terms of social issues.
The regular Florida run sounds like a sweet gig for winter too!

She sounds like the real deal.
By the way, there are PLENTY of liberal Christians out there. Jesus himself was a liberal; a fact the reich-wingers will never admit...

| 22. I am a product of a mixed religion marriage. Episcopalian/Atheist. |
|
All 5 of us kids ended up staying Atheist. (All children are born without religious beliefs.)
It was a pretty easy fit. When we were younger, my mother made us go to church, but didn't force us to go to Sunday School. When we got a little older, even breakfast out wasn't enough to lure us away from Dad's company in the living room on Sundays....
My parents never argued over religion. My Dad never talked about religion until we were old enough to ask the questions ourselves.
Good luck. Proceed with cautious optimism!
