It's one of those things that people like just because it's one of those things that people like.
You disagree, gentle reader? Then tell me how often you listen to the song other than at Thanksgiving...

I last heard it decades ago and really, I'm set for life as far as that goes.

haven't heard it in a while, though. Used to always listen to it while cooking Tx. dinner.

| 4. why do you hate America? Alice's Restaurant is a tradition this time of year |
|
just like overeating, starting a fight at the dinner table with your aunt, and getting into another fight at 3am at Walmart over a Tickle-Me-Something.
Arlo's rambling oratorio is one of the top two or three things about thanksgiving. I will be searching through the fm dial as I travel later today.
I'm so sorry your heart is dead inside

|
. . . . . ...I still love this song. . . . . . Part of that may come from the fact that I saw a student bring down the house at our school Talent Show with the ENTIRE LP version -- just several months after it first came out. . . . . . "I'm not proud... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... or tired." . . . . .

I forgot about it last year. Long ago, I taped it off the radio. Then I found a digital version that fell off the back of a truck.
It's enjoyable for once a year.

Gosh, I thought it was about littering. Obviously I haven't listened to it enough. But I do brine my turkey in Alice's brine every year. It's excellent.

I am 48. I do not listen to it every Thanksgiving. Aside from eating turkey I try not to do anything EVERY Thanksgiving, or every Christmas, or whatever. I like to mix things up; keep the tradition of getting together alive and flaunt the rest of the traditions.

Didn't realize it was about Thanksgiving either but I never really listened to the lyrics. I usually turn it off, if I can.

| 14. I grew up on that song. Not on Thanksgiving, but |
|
being played on the guitar and sung by groups of friends any old time. I've never considered it a Thanksgiving song, or actually thought to listen to it on Thanksgiving, but it's still an all time favorite.
As a matter of fact, I got to sing it along with Arlo a few years back when he showed up to perform as a fundraiser for our local community radio station. He updated it a bit for that go-round, and the whole audience rocked the place.

I've played it voluntarily. I was born too late to have heard it new on the radio, and it's a little too quirky to fit the format of a modern "classic rock" or "oldies" station.
