So, my Fiancee has never told her parents she's with some foreign devil journalist type. She told them the other night that she's marrying one and they're cool with it.
She was worried about it, cause racism is social acceptable in China. I am really looking forward to what will be the weirdness of getting married in her village. My Beijing Chinese friends have told me that it will be a very big deal considering where she's from. I never imagined people would be intrigued that I'm marrying one of their's. Yay!

You'll be something of a novelty in her village, so be prepared for a lot of looks & (hopefully) smiles. I never encountered any negativity when I was in China in terms of me being married to a Chinese woman. However, my wife is from a big eastern city and foreigners/outsiders were not all that rare. Hopefully, the same will hold true in her village.
my daughter gets a lot of stares when she is in China, as mixed children are something of a novelty.

I've seen two people in a full on street fight and Chinese men will stand there looking like they're watching a soap opera.
Thanks!

But, their weddings are generally toned down. Just a lunch with shitloads of drinking. Then we'll be back up to Beijing for a western party.

 That's pretty far removed from the world- not sure that was really possible there given the Cultural Revolution and Communism, etc.
And I think there were plenty of farm plots in China, esp. in the past, right? Doesn't a pretty large part of the population still live in the country, despite all the industrialization/capitalism?
