| I saw something I seldom get to see: Lightning in a snowstorm. |
|
Edited on Wed Jan-26-11 11:23 PM by NNadir
I'm not talking little pops like heat lightening. I'm talking major bolts.
It wasn't actually snow at that point, but rather this rather nastly looking ice stuff.
Because of a recent promotion at my job, I now work twelve hour days rather than ten hour days and so I had the privilege of driving when everybody else had already decided that you'd have to be crazy to drive.
I guess I shouldn't complain. I'm home and as far as I can tell, still alive.
This is, however, a hell of a storm.

| 2. I got stuck in a traffic jam once in one of those. |

Seattle just goes tits up in a snowstorm, and one night we got hit pretty good, a wonderful lightning snowstorm, which was nice because I neded entertainment for the three hours I sat on the freeway!
You're right; they're rare and wonderful. Hope you enjoyed.

| 3. Well, frankly, it wasn't a moment of enjoyment. I was terrified actually. |
|
I was, after all, in a car when it was happening.
I actually hate driving - although I like to think that I'm good at driving in snow - and this was very intense and terrifying, not because of the lightning, but because of the ice.
Predictably, I had someone tailgating me for part of the way.

The weather mavens here in Philadelphia were telling us last night that the thunder and lightning are indicative of how much energy is in the storm...and, yes, it goes with a LOT of snow. We were getting 3 inches an hour last night. And the wind was really howling!

| 7. Are you in Pennsylvania? |
|
I heard the thundersnow last night--and I thought it was just the snowplows outside until I went out to take a look.

It was just rain, but we don't normally get thunderstorms in January.
