| Everything is a file: The UNIX system applied to life |
|
UNIX is an operating system that sits on a large number of server-class computers.
There are many "flavors" of it - from Solaris (Oracle) to HPUX (HP) to AIX (IBM.)
There is Linux, which is very similar, but some people feel isn't a "true" UNIX OS. I like it. You can run it on any computer you want, and it runs faster than Windows (most of the time.)
Even the OS on Macs is a UNIX OS. It's BSD (Berkeley Systems Design) in a variant called 'Darwin.' Take that Ray Comfort!
Anyway - my proposal is that the computer is a metaphor for the brain - only that the brain is a Quantum Computer, in wetware, and UNIX has only been built for Binary Computers. Bits v Qbits.
If you ever want to understand UNIX - just know that 'everything is a file.'
Your sound card, your monitor, your network card, your modem - everything is a file.
Files usually have other files that serve as modifiers, but the file remains the file. As long as the system is running.
Your thoughts?
