Can anyone reccomend a good source on Stokely Carmichael?

I've read about his history with the SCLC (?) and work with MLK Jr...but haven't found much on him personally, yet it looks like he was a pretty big player along side them.

Anyone have any reccomended reads? Books? Websites? Google isn't helping much!

4. What I remember is only hearing him speak from a distance away

so he is not firm in my memory

(Malcolm X I heard at Harvard, in 63 I believe, from about 10 feet away - you could not get closer because of 3 large fellows acting like guards - and at Harvard it was mostly a white crowd with a good proportion of racists who had no problem telling Malcolm in a somewhat not polite Q&A where to go - and I was impressed with how brave Malcolm was - he was obviously a bit scared, but he stood his ground and didn't flinch at anything -so that sticks in my memory)

In any case Stokely was an impressive speaker - at that time he was in CORE, had not yet taken over SNCC from Congressman Lewis. But what he said has not stuck in my memory the way Malcolm's words have (I think someone taped the Harvard speech or it found its way into print some other way - in anycase I recommend it as a good read).

Black power is a phrase he gave us that has real force to this day.

But SNCC (Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee) never had a lot of members and he certainly had only a small fraction of the influence of MLK Jr. - or Malcolm for that matter.
