I hope this is ok to post from daily kos like this, but we have some good news in several areas:
Indiana: Democrats have found a strong challenger to Congressman Chris Chocola. His name is Joe Donnelly, a respected attorney and businessman. Chocola won 50-46 over Jill Long Thompson in 2002, so this race will be very competitive. In addition, Democrats have cleared the field for Jon Jennings to challenge Congressman John Hostettler. Jennings, a former Clinton aide and a Boston Celtics recruiter, has already outraised Hostettler by a wide margin, leading to speculation the Congressman will not run again. In 2004, Democrats will have a shot at 2 GOP seats in Indiana.
Kentucky: Democrats have found a challenger to Senator Jim Bunning. State Senator Dan Mongiardo, a wealthy surgeon, is off and running against Bunning. Mongiardo, in his early 40's, is expected to be competitive against Bunning, although the incumbent still has the edge.
Nebraska: Add another seat to the list of potential Democratic opportunities. With the suprise retirement of Congressman Doug Bereuter (R-NE1), Democrats have a shot at his seat. State Senator Matt Coneally, a farmer and former school board member, has been running for the seat since July. This moderate Democrat represents part of the district, and has a credible shot at making this race competitive. Still, Bush won this district easily in 2000, so a Democrat will have an uphill battle in 2004.
Hopefully we can boot Bunning out...and take two seats in the house from the repubs...

A Democratic Congress would be great! Of course, I'm a realist, but I think there is certainly a chance to win back the Congress.

I hope the admins don't mind me plugging my local candidate...
Sue Myrick has been the Republican congresswoman from suburban Charlotte, NC for too long. Next year her challenger will be Jack Flynn. It's an uphill battle as well, but Flynn is a veteran of the navy and will have a special emphasis on veterans' issues in his campaign. Hopefully he can gain ground in the center with this.
