| Jim Bunning and Ben Nighthorse Campbell: Where are the candidates? |
|
I believe that in terms of recruitment, Jon Corzine has done a terrific job in recruitments. Like Robert Torrecelli in 2000 (who recruited some terrific candidates in Tom Carper, Debbie Stabenow, and the late Mel Carnahan). In 2002, I was very disappointed (where were John Kitzhaber and Jim Hunt?). Whether it be through arm-twisting or what-have-you, Sen. Corzine has on the lineup for 2004 wonderful (and electible) candidates in Pennsylvania, Alaska, Illinois, Missouri, and Florida, along with some great candidates on the way in South Carolina, and North Carolina. Yet the Democrats haven't managed to recruit a top-tier challenger in Kentucky and Colorado.
Now I understand that the Senate race is young, but these two candidates reelection accounts are only getting larger. As Democrats in elections, we do our best at ousting incumbents. Bunning and Campbell are polling in the low 40s, according to polls. Who out there will run?
Some Kentucky candidates:
House Speaker Jody Richards State Treasurer Jonathon Miller
Some Colorado candidates:
Rep. Mark Udall Atty. Gen. Ken Salazar
Any ideas why these four haven't been swept into the race yet?

.......Regardless of the fact that we lost a shoe-in (Gov.Patton)over a sexual dalience I personaly believe that Sen Bunning will be ousted in 2004......Ky just kicked off its fall campaign for a new Governor- Att.Gen. Ben Chandler(Dem) vs U.S.Congressman Ernie Fletcher(GOP)and as of today it is a statistical dead heat....Many names have been circulating regarding opposing Bunning however frankly the issue is just too far under the radar.....As usual the GOP warchest is heavily outweighing the DEMs however look for the DEMs to squeek by the GOP this fall....Included in the possible list for opposing Bunning is the current running mate of Chandler, very rich businessman Charlie Owens for A.G. .......Wish us luck down here as well as Miss. and La. this fall....Also keep in mind that Ky as well as Miss. are relativly low income states so it is certainly a struggle to acquire funding from individuals with limited discretionary funds to offset the media domination of the GOP.....I wish that there were a way to enlist funding support from other areas of the country to assist and upon completion of the race reciprocate....I know that the Nat'l DEM HQ. attempts to do this however along comes strings attached as well....I witnessed this in our last Senatorial contest McConnel vs Weinberg....Advertising was being directed out of D.C.....

I figured that the governor's races were what was taking all of the time in Kentucky. I assume they'll probably find a viable candidate in January, after everyone's been sworn into office. On the Colorado Race, here' an article I found: http://www.denverpost.com/Stories/0,1413,36~53~1553833,00.html

| 4. KY is still very early |

They have a Governor's race this year. After November 2003 we should have a candidate ready. They just have an election season in odd years so the Senate race is not in focus yet.

I really think that he could beat Bunning and have a long career in the Senate.
