New Poll: Dean leading Democratic field in Maryland

Howard Dean has a narrow lead among Democrats in Maryland over Senator Joe Lieberman. Here are the numbers:

Dean: 25%
Lieberman: 23%
Kerry 11%
Gephardt 10%

no other democrat is in double digits.

The poll of 829 registered voters was conducted Aug 13 thru Aug. 20.

Montgomery County has a lot of Jewish people, so it is not suprising that Lieberman is doing well in MD.

somehow... I thought it would be a contest between Dean and Kerry right up to New Hampshire, but these recent polls don't look good for Kerry (a fine candidate and Senator btw) at all. I agree with goobergunch that Lieberman's high polling is mostly name recognition, and it may yet become a brawl between Kerry and Dean.

is MD a Republican state? It has a 6 to 2 edge in Dems favor in Congress. Two Democratic Senators since at least the 1980's. It does have a Republican governor but he is the first one since the mid 1960's. I wish all states were so Republican.

17. NH isn't either Dem or Republican...it's Independent.

Democrats would most likely take NH every time if it weren't for guns. NH is a big hunting state. Dean would take it in the General easily. Would any other Democrat? Probably not. NH will vote for hunting over about anything else except more state taxes. They are might angry with Bush over the huge rise of their property taxes, which were already high as it was. Add overtime to that list, too...and the education mess. As long as guns aren't in play (Dean is the nominee) the Dems will have NH in the bag.

New Hampshire has electoral votes. We need our candidate to get electoral votes to win. Every state is important.

The poll showed that Bush would be in a tight race with both Dean and Lieberman if the general election were held today.

I'm hoping for an absolute landslide Democratic victory for Maryland in 2004. If we can win by an even greater percentage than Gore won by in 2000, we will be nearly unstoppable in the 2006 governor's race.
