| Dean's Stump Speech from Seattle...from a Tennessee news site |
|
I saw someone asking for the text of Dean's Stump Speech somewhere on this forum, so I'm posting it for anyone who might want it. http://www.memphisflyer.com/onthefly/onthefly_new.asp?ID=2525

| 1. I had been asking for the Bryant Park speech |
|
This speech had the comments on the GOP abusing the race issue, but it did not have remarks on how we are going to win the south (or was that "he will win the south" I am starting to interchange the pronouns). Thanks for posting, nonetheless.

| 2. Interesting refinements in there |
|
when he gave his speech in Austin, he didn't mention that home visit/helping families that need it part, which was very interesting. I wonder if this kind of pre-emptive help program really works as well as he is saying. Quite intriguing policy there.

| 4. Yes, it works really well. I used it....and loved it. |

It's a really cheap program to run, too...costing only about $100 per child. It's basically organization and collaboration between community and state services that already exist. It's a network of service providers in every community, all tied together. A nurse gives you some gifts while you're still in the hospital and asks if you'd like someone to visit you after you are settled in at home to offer more services and answer any questions you have. Most people accept the offer...about 91%. The person calls you, sets up a time and then comes over. They provide you with every kind of resource you'd ever need and help you identify any services that would be useful for your family. If there's anything you need...they help you set it all up. It's sort of like a parenting advocacy network. They cover everything from birthcontrol and nutrition to a schedule of playgroups, support groups and immuniztions, WIC, lead poisoning info...everything. And it's all services that are already in place, but with much better implementation of those services.

| 3. Thanks so much for posting this |

We had two of my stepsons over last night. One of them doesn't vote. The other thought it was great when a "good Christian" man like W* won the presidency. Neither could shut up about how much they despise him. I told them over and over "You have to vote in 2004." One will vote for Perot if he runs, and that's fine for me. It's a vote against Whistle Ass.
