| Endorsements: NM Hispanic Leaders for Clark |
|
Ambassador Edward L. Romero, Dr. Arturo Valenzuela and Mr. Jose Villarreal announced their endorsements of Wes Clark's campaign for President.
"I am deeply gratified to have the endorsements of these three distinguished leaders," Clark said. "Their leadership has been invaluable to the Hispanic community and will be a great benefit to my campaign. I am thrilled to have them on board."
Ambassador Romero served as U.S. Ambassador to Spain in the Clinton Administration. Founder, chairman and chief executive officer of Advanced Sciences, Inc., Ambassador Romero's career includes a host of successful business and public service ventures. As co-founder of the Hispanic Cultural Foundation and the National Hispanic Cultural Center in New Mexico and a member of the President's Hispanic Advisory Committee, Ambassador Romero is one of America's most well known Hispanic leaders. Ambassador Romero will serve as New Mexico State Chair of the campaign.
Mr. Jose Villarreal is a partner at the law firm of Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld, LLP, where he focuses on public law and policy, as well as public finance. Long active in the Democratic Party, Mr. Villarreal was National Treasurer of the Gore-Lieberman 2000 campaign. He worked in the Clinton White House as associate director of presidential personnel and he has held numerous leadership positions in a variety of important Hispanic political and cultural organizations.
Dr. Arturo Valenzuela served as Special Assistant to the President and Senior Director for Latin America on the Clinton Administration's National Security Council. Dr. Valenzuela is an expert on Latin American politics. He is currently the Director of the Center for Latin American Studies at the Edmund A Walsh School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University.
A range of issues important to the Hispanic/Latino community will be discussed in the conference call which will be hosted by Clark's New Mexico Communications Director, Luis Vizcaino. Clark 04

| 3. Looks like Lucas Black |
|
The pic of Clark as a kid looks a lot like the actor Lucas Black, who played the kid in Slingblade and on the tv show American Gothic.
Strange resemblence, or is it just my warped mind?

...he's his New Mexico campaign chairman as well.
BTW, here's a coupla paragraphs from todays' Albuquerque Tribune:
The Out-of-Towners The campaign directors for Democrats seeking the party's presidential nomination are tourists with a mission
By Shea Andersen
"Sure, Tip O'Neill said, 'All politics is local.'
But Bryan Burke remembers the former speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives also said, 'You go to Massachusetts if you want a master's degree in politics, but you go to New Mexico if you want a Ph.D.'
Burke, a Maryland native who is running Wesley Clark's presidential campaign in New Mexico, is one of many out-of-staters here to get that advanced political degree--and to get their candidate ahead of the pack in the Land of Enchantment. 'New Mexico has always had delegates, and always had smart voters,' Burke said. 'But obviously, this year is quite different.'
That's because this year, New Mexico Democrats are hosting a Feb. 3 presidential nominating caucus. Before, the state held a June primary, months after the rest of the nation had picked the presidential nominee.
The change was pushed by New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson, a Democrat who wants New Mexico to bask in the limelight--and to get candidates to pay attention to our issues."

Of course, the picture accompanying the article was of a Dean supporter named--I kid you not--Kathy Flake.
