|
What a novel insult to Gore. See, the WP hadn't thrown every insult in the book at Gore! They have more Gore hatred that we hadn't even thought they might insult him with gratuitously.

This guy is the most abused politician I've seen come down the pike in a long time. Absolutely hated by the right. Death from a thousand cuts from the left.
The hell of it is, he is a much better executive than we deserve as a nation. Smart, thoughtful, forward-thinking. The President-in-exile is looking better and better to me, through tired eyes that are weary from viewing the Chimpmeister run this Republic into the ground.
Even Toles, who is normally great, can't help but get a dig in here.

All the crap going on and so much time and effort devoted to whining about Gore endorsing someone.
I don't imagine he meant it to be another distraction, but it looks like that's what everyone is going to make of it. I haven't yet decided who I am going to support for the nomination, but I understand his urgent call to get us to focus.
Way too forward-thinking, sadly.

from Dim Son signing the Medicare Privatization Act, which is fine with me. I'm just amazed at the vitriol the media keeps in reserve for Gore. Much as in this cartoon, it's not directed so much at Dean, but at Gore, who "we"'ve been taught to love to hate. He is the object of our Two Minute Hate.

His endorsement of Dean is more of an attempt to boost himself by hopping on the bandwagon than anything else.

|
I'd say the world media coverage of a Gore endorsement v. the media coverage of a Hart endorsement would be just a tad bit different and Hart's endorsement would be just a tad less interesting...or effective & would not carry the same impact on this particular presidential race...I'd say that.

but I'm not the only one around here who wondered why he didn't talk that way when he was campaigning. As to how relevant they were, well it was big news here at DU, but the general media did not really report what he said. Maybe Gore is still thinking of running in 08 but I think it's a fantasy.
Oh, by the way, I said the point of the cartoon was that Al Gore is irrelevant. I didn't say that I think Al Gore is irrelevant. Somehow I got sucked into defending the statement 'Al Gore is irrelevant.' I didn't make that statement and I don't wish to defend it.

None of the media did. The only way to find out was to download the speech transcripts. So what else is new.

Because the media are always wrong. At least that's what I read here...so any positives about Kerry must definitely be wrong.

I just don't get it. Why make an argument out of everything? The media didn't report what Gore said in his speeches accurately. Are you denying that? What does it have to do with the " the media are always wrong " ? Who said that? What is your point other than the fact that you like to argue? Are you over 16? If so, why don't you act that way?

I only ask this because a few months back when Hart came out for Kerry, it was lauded as a major endorsement coup.

If you don't like the message of the cartoon, perhaps you should write Tom Toles and tell him so.

It's an allusion to Gore's appearance on Saturday Night Live when he and Tipper lip-locked for an incredibly long time.
Toles is a good guy, one of my favorite cartoonists, and not a Dem basher.

It's really not that subtle - I'm surprised so many Deanies didn't get it.
The Kiss. Gore hitching his wagon to Dean's star. (and the little civil unions aside)
Very clever.

Of course - the kiss. I think that was actually at the DNC convention, wasn't it? Here I thought Toles was being bitchy.

The Kiss is obviously an allusion to Al and Tipper's five minute long kidd from the convention and later replay on SNL.
"Ok, Ok, Al, I accept your endorsement." sounds like something a straight man who had just been kissed passionately would say.
IT'S FUNNY!
