Media solution: Stop pretending to be objective

At least that's one view I heard recently on the radio a few weeks ago (KQED 'Forum'). The discussion was about the problem of bias in the media. The reasoning goes like this: The media can never be truly objective. But the news media cliam or try to be objective, so their bias is "camaflouged" if you will. The public is getting biased information but there's no acknowledgement that it's biased.

So, the public would be better served if they knew what bias a particular outlet brought to the news, so that they could take what they get with a grain of salt. Obviously, we do that with Fox.

This is generally the way it works in Europe, at least in print: you have your left wing, right wing and moderate papers, and people know which is which.

I'd rather have that scenario than one in which the media passes itself off as objective, when in fact it is not, nor can it ever be.

Fox Conservative news..
CNN conservative news (because we crave the FOX ratings)
MSRNC conservative news(because we have been fumbling from the beginning, and don't have a clue what we want to be)
NPR conservative-under-pressure news
