Question about Robert Novak
I don`t understand why they would subpoena reporters, even though they didn`t have any involvement in the matter at hand - the public naming of an undercover agent. And Novak seems to be getting a free ride.Or maybe I missed something?

Because they were obviously privvy to whomever gave them the information and can tell us who broke the law.
