On the meme "History will prove that George W. Bush did the right thing on Iraq"
"History will prove that Bush did the right thing" with Iraq ... that's basing a lot on supposition and speculation ...

That's supposing that things would have been a lot worse if he hadn't done anything ... no PROOF ...

I can say, with as much justification, that history has proven that the country was worse off than if Al Gore had been President after November 2000 ...

1. Sometimes the judgment of history is rather swift
For example, right after Little Big Horn, the US Army realized that Custer had made a grave tactical error.

5. I disagree with your example
"Custer's last stand" is one of histories greatest spin jobs.

6. 'custer's last stand' is historical fodder for those learning/being taught 'simple, easy'..
American History 101...

in reality, the War College at Fort Leavenworth teaches the Battle of Little Big Horn as one of its 'historically-proven, great military plans and tactics'...using Sitting Bull's, et. al. plan as an almost PERFECT example of that type of tactic...

8. Oh yeah
Didn't mean to diss the Lakota people, for whom I have great respect--I just couldn't think of another complete military disaster--and you must agree that the US Army saw it as such.

So change my analogy--an army doesn't take years to judge a military disaster as a disaster--they know almost immediately.

7. I realize the spin job
Edited on Fri Jan-16-09 08:46 AM by ayeshahaqqiqa
but if you note, I merely said that, in the Army's viewpoint, they immediately knew it was a disaster. Actually, it was a great victory for the Lakota people--to this day when they "honor the flag" the flag they are honoring is the one taken from the 7th Cavalry.

2. Those with conservative values
are so proud they cannot admit that one with their throught processes could ever be wrong. I fail to find any christianity in my first sentence.

Conservatives put forth a great deal of effort to not take responsibility for anything and yet continue to wave the flag and bray about their christianity.

4. Well said. They claim responsibility when good things happen,
otherwise they blame everyone/everything else.
