Repubs (as tv news-readers) have been "explaining" what the election "meant"

I have been listening to television news readers saying that because 29% of the people in some poll said they wanted a "change in the way things are done in Washington" that that means Obama and the Democrats have the responsibility to change THEIR WAYS and that it is up to them to create a bi-partisan environment in Washington.

WELL, thank you, Republican newsreaders, but the way I see it, this response of 29% is entirely consistent with the majority who voted for Obama and THAT meant people are sick and tired of REPUBLICAN PARTISANSHIP WHICH THREATENS TO KEEP ANYTHING FROM GETTING DONE IN WASHINGTON. (... of course, that's the Republican agenda. Keep Government from getting anything accomplished UNLESS it means lower taxes for the wealthy and corporations.)

NOw does this mean people expect Obama and the Democrats to ask the Republicans to PLEASE cooperate and try to get something done in Washington. Or does it mean the public want someone to read the riot act to those who would sabotage any attempt to get things accomplished in government.

What THE poll meant (i.e. the ELECTION) was Obama has a mandate to produce change and to make it clear to REpublican saboteurs of effective government that they better stop undermining responsible, results oriented government. THATs WHAT THE ELECTION MEANT. But Republicans (appearing as impartial news-readers on tv) are informing viewers that the election of Democrats all over the country (and the removal of Republicans in some historically "safe" blue districts) meant that the Democrats - are the ones who have to change! The twisting of reality by the Republicans still goes on. My compliments to NBC, ABC (and of course FOX and Couric) for pleading the REpublican case.

On Bill MOyers Journal last week Moyers had a EXCELLENT show about how the M$M is do dedicated to delivering the REpublican distortions of reality.http://www.pbs.org/moyers/journal/02062009/profile.html">Politics, the Press, and the Public.

The transcript is http://www.pbs.org/moyers/journal/02062009/transcript1.html">here.

Here is a quote from Glenn Greenwald:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
GLENN GREENWALD: You know, I think if you go back to the 1990s, what you saw is essentially a partnership between the Republican Party, the right wing, and establishment media venues. And this partnership was formed when they were essentially engaged in their lynch mob over the Lewinsky affair.

And that partnership, those methods that were so successful then, translated into the media being blindly supportive and reverent of the Bush administration. And that partnership hasn't really gone anywhere. And so, I think that Obama, being somewhat new to Washington, and looking at Washington as this culture ready to be changed, and leave behind its old ways - that's what he really believes he can accomplish - may have been somewhat surprised by how potent that process is, when it works together.

And it suffocated his message. It attached the most dreaded label in Washington to what he was trying to do, which is conventional liberalism, that this is just a standard package of liberal economic policies: taxing and spending, and imposing burdens on the American taxpayer. And that message resonated with the media, and therefore, with the American public, and steamrolled the White House in a way that I think demonstrated they weren't really prepared for how vibrant that partnership remains.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Right has (with the great help of M$M) attempted to recast "Liberal" as an extremist position (this is to counter the general, and correct, impression of the Republican Right Wing as extremist). Actually, "Liberals" are not the ideologues the Republican Right Wing is. Liberals mostly arrived at their political and economic postitions by examining issues and recognizing better ways to solve certain problems. They later find out these solutions are catagorized as 'Liberal'. There are Liberals who are Liberals by ideology but most Liberals are pretty pragmatic in their approach. They are FOR what WORKS BEST. The Right is always enlisted by those in power to fight any change, even though it will strengthen our economy, our society and our country.
