MADRID, Spain (AP) - Looking to reduce its dependence on oil imports, Spain plans to triple its wind-generated power production by 2010, the Industry Ministry said Wednesday.
Spain hopes to produce 20,000 megawatts by 2010, up from a current 6,500, a ministry spokesman said on customary condition of anonymity. The ministry had previously planned on doubling production levels to 13,000 megawatts.
According to the country's 2000-2010 renewable energy plan, renewable sources should account for 12 percent of total consumption by 2010. Currently they make up roughly 4 percent.
