There is at least two weeks to go plus the month of July marks the highest sea surface temperatures in memory. Egg shell thin ice can melt quickly, and I think this year will be lower than 2008.

The Arctic ice extent will begin to swing wildly in the next few years with both record low as well as record highs. When the wind conditions get right, ice extent will go well below the 2007 levels.
