83 Of 94 Austrian Glaciers Monitored 2007 -2008 Shrank, Seven Unchanged, Four Grew Slightly

VIENNA (AP) - Experts say most Austrian glaciers continued to melt last year.
The Austrian Alpine Association says that of the 94 glaciers it monitored between autumn 2007 and autumn 2008, 83 receded, seven stayed largely unchanged and four showed slight growth.

The Innsbruck-based group said the Schalf Glacier in the Oeztaler Alps, which lost 49 meters (161 feet), melted the most. It said the average loss was 12.8 meters (42 feet) and that 10 glaciers shrank more than 33 meters (108 feet).

2. Gee, what happened near the four that grew? We need more of that!

I know somewhere in the alps they were spreading white tarps over the dark rocks to reflect the light back instead of allowing it to be absorbed and make matters worse.

They say if most of us paint our roofs white, or use light colored roofing materials, that would help the situation too. Same goes for roadways, etc. A lighter color of macadam would make a difference.

Every bit helps.
