http://www.energyefficiencynews.com/i/2428/US Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner and Energy Secretary Steven Chu announced a new round of funding for clean, renewable energy taking the total to more than $1 billion.
The latest round of awards from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) under Program 1603 will make $550 million available to clean energy developers and manufacturers.
The programme provides cash payments to renewable energy projects in place of tax credits up to 30% of the cost of the project. The first round of funding totalling $502 million was announced at the beginning of September.
The second round of funding will support 25 projects including one by Ameresco to supply Palo Alto in California with power from landfill. A number of other renewable developers such as First Wind, Horizon Wind, and Sun Edison will receive support for wind farms and solar installations.
