Goanna attacks 84yo Hunter Valley man

A Hunter Valley man is recovering after being attacked by a goanna.

Keith Julian, 84, from Martin's Creek suffered deep lacerations and nerve damage in his foot in the attack on Friday, requiring 10 stiches.

He says it gave him the fright of his life.

"When I sat out there on the steps with no shoes on he could see I had a nice big foot there ready to grab and before I could do anything about it he had a hold of my foot and I had a hell of a job to get him off," Mr Julian said.

ABC Newcastle reported this morning that (surprise, surprise) it wasn't a random event- the guy had been feeding the big lizard, which was simply coming in for his usual feed. Menu for Tuesday: big toe- bloody rare.
