I support drastic measures, but I know that many would resist the short term consequences, emphasis on "short term".
A carbon tax is a start.
An end to subsidies for dirty energy will raise prices for these energy sources and absent careful progressive application of penalties and subsidies, would have a terrible impact on Joe Average.
Thus, fuel prices would and should climb, but we have to find ways to mitigate the impacts on low and middle income earners.
Future generations will curse or praise what we do in this generation.
