The eastern United States had more cool weather last week while the rest of the country was warmer than usual, U.S. agriculture officials said Tuesday.

Conditions were mostly dry across the Great Plains and western Corn Belt, encouraging planting but contributing to soil moisture shortages, the Agriculture Department reported.

Planting progress remained behind normal along the West Coast, despite mostly dry conditions.

My friend in Pennsyvania is complaining about it... Maybe its me but either the salinity in the ocean is decreasing and the gulf stream is slowing or poles shifting could be a possiblity...

but im in the ohio valley and its late may... at night we are about 20 degrees lower then normal.. I am big into horticulture and plan out my gardens and they are not growing as they should...the ground is too cold for normal wildflowers to germinate.. Our winter was so mild I worried about my spring bulbs <tulips, etc> but they came up, but my spring bulbs are doing nothing, my crop of gourds I sowed are dead, and ive had to germinate seed indoors for any hope of a flower this year.. the problem here in cincinnati ohio is that the ground had not been able to get warm

3. The heat's come on the last few nights in Manhattan! But

they are predicting that its supposed to go up to 80 degrees in a few days. It has been unusually cool here for the week before Memorial Day. The other thing I noticed is I have only seen 1 robin and that was weeks ago. Usually they are returned and visibly evident by this time of year.

The 'theory' of relativity is 'just' a theory too. It's a theory that corresponds to experiment.

No 'theory' jumps out of people's heads arbitrarily. Theory is based on an attempt to explain observable events, usually in mathematical terms.

Newton did not develop a 'theory of gravitation' because he wanted to waste everyone's time. He developed it because objects fall.

The 'theory' of global climate change dates back to predictions made by the chemist Arrhenius in the late 19th century. The events he predicted (and on which many others have elaborated since) are coming to pass. Thus the 'theory' has been confirmed.

The anti-science Bushies keep hammering home this 'just a theory' stuff, trying to invalidate science. Another is to substitute uncertainty for invalidation. This is just pure crap. Don't let it get into your head.

5. Typically atypical

It has been chilly. I refuse to turn the heat back on but could've used it last night. My hands are like ice now. Yes the temperature has been below normal for much of the spring but I'll take that over 90 degree spring days. There's plenty of time for that to come.

The weather in New Jersey is highly variable. We get it all, even a small tornado now and then. My favorite saying, if you don't like the weather just wait because it'll change.

I don't equate the cool spell to anything other than the usual variable of the weather. The worse thing about it is hearing the "so much for global warming" comments.
