UK: Power station protesters arrested (largest in Europe)

Twenty-eight campaigners have been arrested during a "mass day of action" against carbon emissions at Britain's largest coal-fired power station.

Hundreds of demonstrators plan to disrupt operations at Drax Power Station in North Yorkshire.

The arrests were for offences including possession of offensive weapons and causing a public nuisance.

Police said the majority were arrested outside Drax but said a "small number" had gained access to the plant.

It generates 7% of the UK's electricity. I can't say I agree with trying to shut it down by the protest, but I can see an extreme action like that generates publicity - this is the top news story on teh BBC now.
