Former Kuomintang legislator Wu Teh-mei (吳德美) yesterday urged her fugitive husband, ex-Kaohsiung City Council speaker Chu An-hsiung (朱安雄) "to apply for political asylum," as prosectors issued a second arrest warrant for the former political kingpin on embezzlement charges.
The ex-speaker failed to appear last Thursday to serve a 22-month sentence for vote buying in connection with his election to head Kaohsiung City Council late last year. District prosecutors issued an arrest warrant after rejecting an application made by Chu's lawyer for a three-month delay.
After Chu failed to appear three days after the court had issued an arrest warrant, Kaohsiung District Chief Prosecutor Chou Chang-chien (周章欽) announced the imposition of an all-points bulletin, which allows any law enforcement officer to arrest the fugitive, Monday at 3:00 p.m..
