Harare - Zimbabwe's largest state hospital is refusing to discharge 28 newborns and their mothers until they pay their bill, the hospital director was quoted as saying on Thursday.
"Yes, I can confirm that there were 28 mothers who had not paid anything and we could not let them go when they owe us some money," Chris Tapfumaneyi, the superintendent of Harare Central Hospital told the state-owned Herald newspaper.
He said the hospital had been forced to take these measures as it was owed millions by patients and was now unable to provide basic services and drugs due to a cash crunch.
