WIESBADEN - Political differences between Berlin and Washington notwithstanding, there was a strong increase in the number of US tourists to Germany in the first half of 2004, official data showed Tuesday.
The Federal Statistics Office in Wiesbaden reported overnight stays by US visitors increased 19 percent to 2 million in the first half of the year.
The rise far surpassed the overall 11 percent increase in overnight stays by foreign visitors to Germany in the period, the office noted.
The full-year record for overnight stays by US travellers is 5.1 million, set in 2000, the year when Hanover hosted the world exposition.
