Teen Girl Killed By Accidental Shooting
Police say on Sunday, March 15th, Allie and her friends were partying with the three young men who lived in a house just north of the Katy Freeway at Westview near Silber. One of them, Robert Odom, allegedly showed the group including neighbor Robert Peach, his gun.

"When we got ready to leave, he put it up, and got it back out after we left, and tragedy," Peach said.

Police say Odom thought the gun was unloaded before he placed it behind Allie's head and fired. He's since been charged with manslaughter, but Allie's dad says that's not enough.

"A gun to the back of somebody's head, an execution style situation, is murder," said Robert Aubrecht. "This is no accident."

4. the "oh sorry, it was an accident" defense
That will give the anti-gun nuts something to complain about.

At least no one is blaming it on video games.

5. Teenagers and guns should not mix. Period. Young boys who have been taught to safely handle guns
from their childhood hit the teen years and become very careless in their attempts to show off to their friends.

Teenagers have very poor impulse control.
Their brains function differently when dealing with the basic reality of "cause and effect."
Add to that the inevitable need to look cool or tough to their friends and these responsible children who were taught to respect guns will pull them out to show off to friends.

Its the same reason teenage boys will speed and drive recklessly.
They have taken their driving classes and tests.
They have been taught to drive safely by their parents.
Their parents have probably discussed the increase in insurance that happens with tickets.
They have the best of intentions and certainly want to avoid the notice of the police and the punishment of their parents.
Yet, they get behind that wheel and, with a couple of peers or maybe a girlfriend as their audience, they have to show off the coolness, daring and all-around badassness of their driving techniques.

Teenagers.
Grrr.

6. I'll bet
it's also the reason the armed forces like them so much.

7. I gave each of my 2 sons their own rifles at 18
They have been handling them since they were young and I thought it was about time they had their own so I let them choose one of my rifles on their 18th birthdays. Both are well trained and mature enough to handle them. When my third son, now 14 turns 18 I will let him choose from my collection also.

10. Speaking as a teen ager...
Who also happens to own guns, and has other teenage gun owning friends... I'd say you're a bit out of it. Broad generalizations fail on epic proportions as well.

13. Being around guns their entire lives
is NOT the same thing as being trained. There's no such thing as a guarantee, of course, but I can say with absolute confidence that had the young man actually been PROPERLY TRAINED the likelihood of such a display of abject stupidity would have been greatly diminished.

11. I'd say it goes beyond negligence.
A young girl partying at a guy's house. Pistol placed to the back of her head, trigger pulled...

These things don't just happen because someone slipped in a puddle of beer while practicing their quick draw. (Yes, I know someone who shot himself that way) Placing a gun to someone's head is a very violent thing even if you don't shoot. There's much more to this story. Sadly, the girl's parents are going to get dragged through a sewer of human behavior as the story unfolds.

9. I think he needs to go to prison for a long time
Who the fuck puts any gun to the back of anyone's head? Sorry, but I have no tolerance of idiots who mishandle firearms. It causes untold tragedy and it makes it more difficult for those of us who respect firearms and handle them safely to maintain our right to own them. This guy needs to go away for a long long time.

12. The government should't let us do things, it's unsafe!
We should all just go to work (with public transportation), come home, watch TV, eat governemt approved pre-fabricated meals, poop, then sleep. Because we are obviously not trustworthy enough to make our own decisions and deal with the consequences, I mean, look at all these sad stories!!11!1!

Gardner mother accused of stabbing, strangling daughter, 2

A mother has been accused of stabbing her 2-year-daughter with a scissors last night in Gardner and trying to strangle the child with an electrical cord, police said.

The mother, Susan Johnson, 38, allegedly stabbed the girl in the torso, head, and neck in a laundry room of an apartment building. The child was rushed to Heywood Hospital in Gardner and taken into custody of the Department of Children and Families.

When police arrived at the apartment building, a security guard had pinned Johnson to the floor of the laundry room, keeping her away from her bleeding daughter. Police arrested Johnson on charges that include attempted murder, armed assault with intent to murder, and assault and battery on a child with injury.

Child dies after tree cut by dad falls in Mich.
Associated Press
2:47 PM CDT, March 29, 2009
HASTINGS TOWNSHIP, Mich. - A 6-year-old boy has died after a tree being cut down by his father, who was clearing an 80-acre field for farming in Barry County, landed on him, police said.

The child was about 50 feet from the base of the tree that his father was cutting with a chain saw Saturday afternoon when he was struck, Michigan State Police Trooper Phil Vannette said Sunday.

"It's just a horribly tragic accident," Vannette said.

The father had told his son and a 9-year-old girl who is a family friend to stay inside a truck several hundred feet away from where he was cutting at the field in Hastings Township, Vannette said.

A pile of brush was being burned in the field, Vannette said, and the boy got out to warn his father the fire had spread to some grass. Police said the father wasn't aware that his son had left the truck.

"The dad didn't see him," Vannette said.

The father called 911 and attempted to revive the boy, who was taken to a hospital in nearby Hastings and pronounced dead, Vannette said. Hastings is located about 30 miles southeast of Grand Rapids.

Names weren't being released, Vannette said.

An autopsy was planned. Although the death appeared to be an accident, Vannette said reports from the medical examiner's office and police were to be forwarded to the prosecutor's office for review.

Obviously parents can't be trusted to raise their own kids, only the government should be allowed to raise children.
And DON'T get me started on America's scissor and tree problem.
