need some advice Re: shotgun

i have a shotgun but the stock is too long for my comfort, its a maveric model 88 and the best stock i have seen (claims to reduce recoil, too) is a pistol grip with a folding stock, any ideas?

i'm also thinking about that pistol grip because the model 88 is kinda akward in the distance of the trigger, and the pistol grip would fix that

I don't really like PGs on shotguns, but you have to go with what you are comfortable with. Fit is probably the most important factor in shotgun selection after all.

6. Pistol grips on a shotgun suck

I used to have a Mossberg with a pistol grip.

It truly hurt to shoot it. I suppose if it had a stock as well that would help, but if all the recoil is absorbed by your hand, its not fun.

But..it is very manuervable weapon idea for home defense.

This style seems a little awkward, but I have one for another weapon and I like it. Make sure it is no cheapie though.

You should be able to find something civilian like this and it has a removable pistol grip.

Maybe you can find something with intermediate extension settings.

I like a real butt when I use it shoulder.

I have also seen guys use an under arm hold, and they can get pretty damn good that way.

If you do just cut the stock down, I would use a spare one so you could return the weapon to a more standard configuration.

20. There a bunch of different styles,

but I have never been to a store that had more than a small number of choices.

An expandable (slides) stock should be OK if you can get one of the right length. I believe that most are zero or full extension lock only, but I see no reason why there couldn't be intermediate positions if you designed it that way. But, hey, I like the folding kind.

Personally I have never liked that "wire" style of extension. I like something that I can use with just a hand hold, then in a few seconds move to a shoulder position with a real butt. I think that they balance better too.

I also like a front rig, and a folder drops a bunch off of the length and helps with balance.

Pretty much I insist that any modification to my guns, (that is a matter of "taste"), can be undone.

In any event, I couldn't find the banner that you are talking about, but, if you are willing to pay the coin, I am pretty sure that something can be found.

If you can give me some idea of what you are looking for in terms of collapsed and extended lengths, I am willing to look around a bit.

You should probably give me overall lengths too, because sometimes that is the way they talk about it.

The 88 and the Mossberg 500/590 take (some of anyway) the same aftermarket buttstocks, don't they?

I am thinking about another 12 and the 88 is on the possible list.

22. If you want to keep the stock you have now for possible future resale

you may want to contact Mossberg to see if they have a youth size stock that fits your model. That's what we did with my wife's 1100.
