| Poll question: Opinions on NYPD: pre- and post-9/11 |
|
I wonder how people's attitudes toward cops in general, and the NYPD in particular, changed after 9/11.
What did you think of the NYPD before 9/11, and what do you think of them now?

What I disagree with is this constant lionization that elevates NYPD to some sort of sainted status because of 9/11. If the terrorists had attacked my brother's town he would have run into a burning building to save people. NYPD is no better (or worse) than any other law enforcement agency.
NYPD sure does a lot of good, but like any org, there are plenty of asshats thrown into the mix.
I still stand by my claim that most LEO's are right-wingers, just like most Marines are right-wingers (but like me, not ALL). I've lived in a lot of places, known several LEO's in my time, interned at a fed LE agency, and have yet to be proved wrong.
(thread hijack sideshow follows)
I know I rag on "law enforcement" here a lot, but people should take it with a grain of salt.
I am more against the principle of a caste system that elevates some people over others (like when Neil Boortz says that a disaster affecting the inner city is "less of a societal loss" than one that befalls some gated mcMansion community). Some people have claimed that LEO's are somehow "more better" than the average citizen, and therefore I should completely turn over responsibility for my family's safety to them - that is what I disagree with.
