| If you just want self-defense, why not use a taser gun? |
|
Gun owners claim they're not out to kill, but to protect themselves and their families. SO why not a non-lethal gun? It would knockout the crook and you can call the police for his arrest!
See, there's no reason for a "Good citizen" to own a live firearm, aside from stupid testosterone driven desires and hunting/plinking, which can be both done with single shot bolt action rifles.

Right on. This is where the gun-nuts argument falls to shit. There is other perfectly good methods of self-defense, thus the need for certain guns, like assault rifles and non-hunting handguns, is none!

Sorry. That's just my opinion. It has wires, man. Better get it right the first time. Better hope your target doesn't have a buddy. Thanks, but I'll hang on to my Glock 45 and my Mossberg pump shotgun.
BTW I don't hunt. I think chasing animals with high powered rifles is idiotic, but that's just me. I prefer to simply watch and appreciate them. I live in the city, so when I get to hang out with a deer in a meadow, it is a special moment.
Obviously, we disagree on these matters.
Respectfully, I remain a heavily armed liberal.

Thing is, you don't NEED the gun for self-defense, so all that shit about guns being necessary for safety is fucking bullshit!

Is because they actually have to arrest people. You have no obligation to confront anyone. If someone pulls a gun on you, run away or use a taser. The need to pull your own gun is nothing but testosterone and moronicy a mock.

Someone give me an actual reason, don't just say "Cause Tasers aren't good" or "I can't agree with that".
A REASON! There is none, guns are not needed for self-defense.

99.99% of the population will likely not need self defense. The two times I did, CS/OC was sufficient. It is the same with the police. There is not one self defense tool, it is a layering of tools, habits, awareness.

I've been in the situation of having a burglar shoot at me. I had the equipment, mindset, and ability to shoot back.
I'm here. He's not. Nearly 30 feet down the hall of my house was a bit far for a Taser.
Want to see my scar? Come for a visit. Want to see his scar? You gotta get a exhumation order first.
No. I've never lost a moment of sleep over it. He shot first. I shot last. My wife and infant son are likely alive and unharmed today because of my actions.

I'd prefer that an attacker not be able to get within arm's reach before I can stop him/her.
You can take whatever course of action or inaction you choose. Please don't attempt to remove my choice for personal protection and recreation. I shoot for a hobby. Why? Because I can't abide hockey.
on edit: This thread reminds me of the old joke about the fellow who took a knife to a gun fight.

Gee thats an odd statement.
From what I've seen when police arrest people they generally dont actually use thier weapons on them aswell.
Police have weapons for self defense, the citizens of this nation have the right to keep and bear the same weapons for thier own self defense.
If someone pulls a gun on you, run away or use a taser.
Gee not all of us can be olympic sprinters capable of our running or outdodging bullets.
Additionally if someone is willing to use deadly force against me while should I limit myself to non-lethal force, the police dont, why should I?

I wont use non-leathal force when I feel my life is in danger.
Additionally I will not use Tasers as many law enforcement agencies do, which is in a non dangerous situation just because someone wont instantly comply.

and I'll sell my self-defense handgun.
That is, after I first get my state (MD) to change its law that bars the carrying of taser-like weapons or "stun guns" in public . . . . And there are many states with similar laws.

I would suggest curling up on the floor in a fetal position and crying until its over. Or just get a taser- same thing.
No thanks Bud. If someone decides to enter my home when I am there I have to assume they mean to do me harm. As I lack the ability to read minds I would have to assume the worst.
Your fear of firearms is no reason for me to compromise my self defense.

My state law has no provision to acquire a permit to carry a taser or any other type of stun gun for self-defense. It is possible to get a permit to carry a handgun here, but not a taser.

|
ala Sheriff Bart in Blazing Saddles.
When you discover the intruders quickly hold the Taser up to your neck and tell the intruder ... "One false move and the homeowner gets it".
Then he'll take pity on you and tell you they don't really need your DVD, TV etc. and just leave.
If they don't, just taser yourself and you don't have to watch them raping and murdering your family and cleaning out your home.
Later, I'm sure the local police will commend you for taking such a humane view toward law breakers that are just compensating for the bad breaks they have had in life.
Once you recover fully from the self tasering you can begin making the funeral arrangements for your family and congratulate yourself for purity of thought and deed and for not having an evil, "child killing" gun in your home.
