The leading Roman Catholic clergyman in the Holy Land has appealed for an end to conflict there.
The appeal came as Palestinian Christians celebrated Christmas at the believed birthplace of Jesus Christ in Bethlehem.
Hundreds of pilgrims gathered in Manger Square, which was decorated with coloured lights and Christmas trees, and awash with the soft sounds of hymns and church bells.
Worshippers also flocked to the grotto of the Church of the Nativity, revered by Christians as the birthplace of Jesus.
The traditional midnight mass was celebrated with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas present.
