Palestinian youth orchestra shut after performing for Holocaust survivors

JENIN, West Bank – Authorities in an impoverished Palestinian refugee camp have shut down a youth orchestra, boarded up its rehearsal studio and banned its conductor from the camp after she took 13 young musicians to perform for Holocaust survivors in Israel, an official said Sunday.

I think the woman should have been fired for her inappropriate behavior. I hope the musical group is soon reconstituted with a new director.

13. Well, whatever happens, the orchestra should be reconstituted.

And I'd say that someone like Daniel Barenboim should organize a concert in solidarity with those Palestinians still unjustly held in the camp.

I'd prefer to see it under the direction of a great Arab musician, preferably one like Simon Shaheen, who is himself Palestinian!

5. Actually it hasn't been

There's been a long thread about the topic. The majority of pro-Palestinian posters thought that the actions here were regrettable and that the condert was a good thing. A few thought that the concert was a bad idea, as Palestinian children should not be playing for Israelis and would (in their view) not have a free choice.

Personally, I think it's sad. The more contacts between the different sides of this, or any, conflict, the better. Wafa Younis is an admirable person IMO.
