Hamas: Israel has two options - death or departing Palestinian land

Hamas' armed wing warned Israel against launching any new military action in the Gaza Strip, where it said Israel was attempting to escalate the situation.

Ahmed al-Jabari, head of the Al-Qassam Brigades said on Saturday that Hamas would not rest until Israel was ousted from of Palestine

Al-Jabari said Israel faced only two options – departing from Palestinian territories or death. He added that Hamas resistance would continue as long as Zionists remained in Palestine.

Hamas commander: Israel will disappear

Muhammad Deif, the commander of Hamas' military wing, said the Palestinians will not give up their struggle until Israel ceases to exist.

In a statement issued Saturday to mark 23 years since the Islamist group was founded, Deif also vowed to release all Palestinian prisoners held in Israel. "We promise to release them and break the (prison) bars despite the occupiers' efforts," he said.

In a direct message to Israel, Deif said, "You will disappear and we will have Palestine. We won’t wave a white flag as long as even one Muslim remains."

5. Also from Haaretz-Top Gaza Hamas official: We are committed to ceasefire with Israel

Hamas said on Friday that they were committed to the unofficial ceasefire with Israel reached after Operation Cast Lead in 2008, despite a rise in violence in recent weeks.

Top Hamas official Mahmoud Zahar said "We are committed to self-restraint as long as there is no oppression and no aggression."

But rocket and mortar fire from Gaza have increased in the run-up to the second anniversary of Israel's offensive against Hamas in the Gaza Strip which began on Dec. 27, 2008 and lasted for three weeks before an unofficial ceasefire.

Zahar insists the unofficial cease-fire is not a sign of weakness. He spoke to thousands of supporters after Friday prayers in the southern Gaza town of Khan Yunis.

Zahar also hinted that Hamas was using it to rearm and reorganize, and criticized rivals in the Palestinian Authority for new arrests of Hamas members in the West Bank.

when they are attacked. A sticky wicket for them however since it is they who have fired repeatedly into Israel. Israel has never made a secret of the fact that they will RESPOND to unfriendly fire.

HAMAS is in charge. The firing into Israel continues. HAMAS has the responsibility to stop attacks on Israel.

Hamas and other armed groups in Gaza have committed war crimes in attacking Israeli civilians but to say that Gaza is never attacked by Israel is simply not true, no matter how one tries to justify it

HAMAS and fellow-travelers continue to fire mortars/rockets/rocks whenever they feel like it. Some here do not want Israel to respond as they have a right to. The same right these folks want the Palestinians to have--the right of self-defense.

No one seemed to cry/whine/complain about the 14 year old CIVILIAN schoolgirl injured by the most recent mortar rounds out of Gaza...but they do cry/whine/moan over Israel taking out some of the illegal smuggling tunnels in response.

Seems awfully one-sided to me.

They are, as you pointed out, not responsible for the defense of the Palestinian people.

And I do consider it scary that Israel is acquiring advanced military fighter planes.

I fear that another conflict may be on the horizon.

22. As to the acquisition of the new fighters...F-35s I think...

a reminder that Saudi is buying a fleet of these new fighters. Perhaps the Israeli version of this aircraft is just to balance the force in the area. Israel otherwise, could come off 2nd best(read dead)should matters get out of hand.
