Qorei urges polls, deployment of peacekeepers
Palestinian PM asks EU's help to enable over-due local, legislative, presidential elections to be held.
BRUSSELS - Palestinian prime minister Ahmed Qorei on Wednesday called for peacekeepers to be deployed in the Palestinian territories to enable over-due local, legislative and presidential elections to be held.
"It's time we go for elections," Qorei said in a speech to members of the European parliament.
"We want your help, we cannot do it with the Israeli occupation," he told the assembly's foreign affairs commission, adding that Palestinians were already well-prepared to hold a vote.
"A commission has been established, a budget is being allocated," he said.
