| Will Katrina's Impact Be Diminished? |
|
I mean, the American people have short memories as it is. Could it be possible that this administration will get off easy as Katrina is lumped into a season of disasters with Rita and now this Pakistan Earthquake?
Whatever the final death toll will be for NO, it will pale in comparison to teh 20K in Pakistan.

| 1. Not with hundreds of thousands of displaced people |
|
being absorbed into already overstretched communities all over the country, to say nothing of the continuing high oil prices. This particular event at least hits people where it counts, and so will be far less likely to be forgotten quickly.
And everybody know that American lives, even those of poor and black Americans, are vastly more important than Pakistani lives.:sarcasm:

| 3. They already have gotten away with it. It's no longer news and |
|
the people displaced were poor and/or black so no one cares and their will be now news story. The only one's you'll see will be the great rebuilding into a white republican utopia where everyone works for next to nothing there are no environmental or health or safety rules and you damn bet no worker rights, and the rich get richer.

In fact, I've heard they are going to try and turn NO into a sort of Las Vegas type gambling town to try and recover losses.

| 5. I think NO will look like San Antonio or LA after a while |
|
Because Bush suspended the prevailing wage, and the minimum wage is so low, the kind of labor that will rebuild New Orleans will mostly be Latino immigrants.
Many of them will stay behind, and become the new NO.
