Tonight on "All things considered", Michelle was "interviewing" Karen Hughes. Such an inspiration to hear yet another time, "the Bush vision of the world". :puke: I think it's shocking that NPR has become part of the chimp's echo-chamber. Anybody else think it's time to stop subsidizing them?

2. I have no objection to an interview of Karen Hughes as long as

NPR does interviews of alternative views as well. NPR is for the public, all the public. I don't like the views of Karen Hughes but that doesn't mean I should control the airwaves. NPR is alright, bit dry and sometimes not very imaginative but so long as you're not looking for a big bang, its doable.

I'm confident this will get straightened out in time, and I fully support the concept of public media. In fact, I fully don't support the idea of private companies even having access to the public airwaves.

I think most of the major media will realize, when we've recovered from this era of journalistic malfeasance, that the responsibility of capital J Journalism is to cover the truth, not just both sides of a story.

It is appropriate for them to interview Karen Hughes (although I find no value in that either). She is a public official and she plays a role in the state of the world, right? Or should I say "correct"? When they interview Katrina vanden Heuvel, do you see NPR as a mouthpiece of the Left? I hope you would not prefer them to be more like a Fox of the left, and have no news value whatsoever.

8. NPR has become less liberal in their presenting of political;

issues. How ever I do enjoy other programing that they offer. As we donate less. the right will donate more, even in public radio "It's all about selling soap" , someone has to pay Sylvia Pagoli. I do feel that satellite radio will have a effect on NPR as it will offer programing that once was only found on NPR.

15. Making NPR "balanced"

Is nothing more than a ruse to rob America of what was their only chance to hear something other than the rah, rah shite which occupies 99% of the mass media in my country. It was Voice of America, right there on my American radio, in America! There was absolutely nothing substantive to the vapid, tired lies repeated by Hughes on NPR. It was propaganda, pure and simple. NPR used to be above that sort of slack-jawed pandering but now only "Democracy Now!" is useful for getting the truth out, and that's pretty limited to the coasts. Screw NPR for allowing themselves to become yet another "tool" of this deceitful administration. They caved and allowed their "journalistic standards" to slip. Sorry if I gored some of your collective ox. It's how I see it.

13. Welcome aboard

I've been complaining about NPR for two years. When Bob Edwards was 're-assigned' (essentially fired) there was a dramatic tilt to the right. And it wasn't so much that they were taking sides. NPR was allowing wingers and think tankers unfettered access with no fact checking, no real followup questions. I hung on for a while but the social security BS last spring did me in. I'll ;isten to Terri Gross or day-to-day, but morning edition and ATC are pretty much off my list.
Steve Inskeep as a follow up to Bob Edwards is like comparing Hannity to Murrow. I sure Edwards knows he's much better off outta there.

outside of pacifica, they still inject some fairness into their reporting. i didn't hear the interview but karen hughes is way too inept for her recent assignments. i hope just a little of that came through. chimp is in hot water and trying to surround himself with allies, no matter how unqualified. something akin to a shakespearean tradedy is going on in the highest levels of our government and we are still pretty much in the dark. something has to cut loose

I was listening to The Diane Rehm Show on NPR this morning, as I do most mornings. Today they were discussing Kurt Vonnegut's "Slaughterhouse Five" with three guests. They were:

Jackson Bryer, Professor of English at the University of Maryland and co-editor of "Dear Scott, Dear Zelda" (St. Martin's Press)

Ronald Goldfarb, attorney, author, and literary agent.

Susan Tolchin, professor of Public Policy at George Mason University

I am not sure who said it, but they pointed to the last days of Lyndon Johnson's presidency, and how "haunted" he looked, how big a toll the Vietnam war took on both his presidency and as a man. Whomever was speaking was saying how very much they wanted to see the same look in the people who are responsible for the horrible mess in Iraq, but they did not.

I often wonder how Bush, Wolfowitz, Rumsfeld, Cheney and all the rest can sleep at night, with 2085 american families never to see their loved ones again, with many more whose lives were altered by loss of limbs or psychological problems, not to mention the Iraqi dead and wounded. So many innocent lives!

At any rate, you will not often, if ever, hear such sentiments anywhere but NPR, or Air America.

18. IIRC, Michelle's husband worked for Kerry campaign.

To avoid appearance of impropriety, they said that Michelle was not allowed to say anything about Kerry during the campaign.

It's kind of absurd that, during the campaign season, an anchor on one of the most listened-to news programs in America was supposed to act like there wasn't a campaign going on.
