| Did anyone hear something on CNN against "military victory"? |
|
I had the TV on while doing chores around the house when I caught snippets of a report from Iraq. The reporter, who had a British accent, was making the point that the whole concept of a military victory in Iraq is just not in the cards and never has been. Some of us said this before the invasion, and John Murtha has come around to saying it, but I think the point just goes over most people's heads. This reporter, though, seemed to be stating it more clearly than others. He noted, for example, that the insurgents had studied the American debacle in Vietnam and concluded that they did not have to defeat us militarily; they just had to wait us out. He also talked about how "victory" in Iraq would have to be won diplomatically and how military action actually works against our goals, not for them. As I said, I only caught snippets of it, and I haven't seen it repeated. If anyone else caught it and knows more about it than I do, perhaps you could give a more complete report to the group.

There are around 1 billion Muslims in the world. By some reports, 90% of them are in accord with us. The bad news is that there are some 100 million Muslims who wish us off the planet. How long would it take 100 million suicide bombers to all blow up if there were, say 10 a day?

| 2. There have been 5 insurgencies involving super powers |
|
The super powers have zero...as in none.
There is an interesting story regarding insurgencies. The only modern success against insurgencies came when the British defeated the communist guerrillas in Malaya in the 50s. This came after 10 years of fighting and the man who devised the plan was Sir Harold Briggs, a British general. T.X. Hammes, a Marine, has spent a lifetime studying gorilla war, wrote an op ed piece for the NYT about the Briggs and what lead to the defeat. Who should call Hammes but Doug Feith requesting that Hammes send the Pentagon a memo. He did; and of course, they never replied. As Hammes would later say: "If they haven't heard of Briggs, we're in trouble."
Basically, the Pentagon is run by a bunch of cash clowns who haven't a friggin clue what they're doing.

| 3. But Bush wants a "complete" victory... |
|
As he said in his last speech. Not just a victory, but a complete victory. I have no idea what that might be?

He is the Baghdad bureau chief for Time magazine. He is an Australian and has been exposing Bushco lies for some time. You can google him and see some of his work. He has been a guest on Air America and is one of the best reporters in Iraq at this time. He debunked Bush's speech about the Iraqis taking the lead role in a recent mission.
