| 1. They must be . . . he even called on Helen! |
|
And of course was decimated by her one and only question. But for some reason, they must feel he HAS to do it.

| 5. According to Helen on CNN, the Gridiron dinner helped to |
|
mend fences. She said she 'sort of' apologized for disparaging dimson. He calls on her, and WHAM! she's back on the shit list! I Love Helen! :loveya:

| 8. I think their plan backfired... |
|
I have Scarborough on right now in the background (i know i know ... he's like fingernails on a chalkboard) anyway.. the thrust of his whole first segment was to try to lay some kind of blame for something at the feet of the mean old press... embodied in the "satanic old arab" Helen Thomas.
It's really so silly.. I'm laughing at em more than cursing em.
I think Bush called on Helen today (which he never does) with the specific purpose of demonizing her. Big mistake. Judging from what's happening in the media and the public... I think this patently Rovian stunt has blown up in their faces

| 4. They do know the TRUE poll numbers |
|
and they likely see that a trend not in their favor. Any lower and their defenders in congress will be forced to turn on em. That may be their doom.. and that could be the reason they are panicking.
That was sheer panic today.

up against the wall? It was PERFECT! They all had these plastic little smiles plastered to their faces. They knew. They knew. Bush is dead in the water.
I almost wonder if his little speech today wasn't some kind of message to his base other than the obvious "I'm out here trying to make nice nice with you guys. I know I screwed up on the Dubai deal."
Didn't Nixon make a few of these delusional speeches before his base turned against him completely?

They figure by getting him out there, he might get a few points back, get him up around 40.
