WASHINGTON - November 6 - Former President Bill Clinton made a surprise appearance at Saturday’s 10th Annual Miami Recognition Dinner, a benefit for the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force , where he wowed the 650-plus-crowd. Clinton, who was in South Florida to campaign for Democratic candidates, arrived at the event around 8 p.m., where he proceeded to greet NAACP Chairman Julian Bond, one of the evening’s honorees, and then shake hands with numerous attendees.

''I'm opposed to it being in a platform. I think it's a mistake," Kerry said shortly after hosting a forum on his universal children's healthcare bill in Baton Rouge. ''I think it's the wrong thing, and I'm not sure it reflects the broad view of the Democratic Party in our state."

Some analysts believe that the same-sex marriage issue contributed to Kerry's loss to President Bush in last year's presidential campaign. Kerry's position puts him at odds with the state Democratic Party chairman and his fellow Bay State senator, Edward M. Kennedy, who is scheduled to address the party convention next weekend.

Lucky for us, Hillary Clinton was quoted as saying that she is "evolving" on same sex marriage, to a small LGBT group behind closed doors. I can't hardly wait for Hillary's "evolution" to come to fruition, perhaps in time to welcome the 22nd century!

Secondly, it is no secret it is age-old Rovian strategy to put Dems between a rock and a hard place before an election. DOMA was put before Clinton before the 1996 election, and Homeland Security and the Iraq War before Congress in 2002. Hell yes it would have been nice if they all had the balls to do the right thing, but to selectively excuse some and not others is just bullshit, and that hypocrisy reeks.

I do volunteer hospice work in the Castro here in SF and the people I serve are wonderful, uplifting, delightful people that are so far removed from the nastiness spewed by some here at DU, and it is that disparity of behavior I am commenting on. I would move heaven and earth if I could for the people I serve in SF. Some of the people here at DU, not so much.

never mentions "gay?" The amendment in Indiana uses similar language to other amendments introduced in other states. It explicitly refers to "unmarried couples."

Therefore, DOMA indirectly (or directly, depending on how you view it) does outlaw gays from being married.
