Kenneth Star's Law Firm Gives Money To Clinton Campaign

July 31 (Bloomberg) -- Lawyers at Kirkland & Ellis, the law firm that's home to Whitewater prosecutor Kenneth Starr and Bush administration official Jay Lefkowitz, have given more to Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign than to all of the top Republican candidates combined.

Kirkland, based in Chicago, is one of several corporate law firms that traditionally backed Republicans where lawyers are turning to Democratic candidates. Lawyers say the change is largely due to disenchantment with the Republican Party's social policies and the war in Iraq.

``The Iraq war has a very significant pull on people, but it's not just limited to that,'' said Kirk Radke, a New York partner at Kirkland who is fundraising for Clinton. ``There's the need for a better posture within the international community.''

Large U.S. firms such as Jones Day and Sidley Austin, which donated more to President George W. Bush in 2000 than to Democratic candidate Al Gore, are giving thousands more to Democratic hopefuls than Republicans. Top Wall Street investment banks and hedge funds are also giving more to Democrats.

And to think he actually thought he'd be the 'youngest ever' justice on the Supremes...it's what he spent his entire professional life working towards...the baaaaastid. I'm so pleased his dreams were dashed, cruelly and irrevocably.

crucify her if she wins the primary. They want to make it look like they are really for her. The media's pumping her up-always saying she's the front-runner - how exactly is that measured? IMHO we're being set-up and I hope people start seeing it.

How would you measure a frontrunner?

6. Many of my Republican physician friends say:

"I hated Bill Clinton and didn't vote for him either time but I sure wish he was still our president." When I ask them specifics, most of them point to how much better off they were financially when he ran the country.

8. Kenn Starr isn't even a partner at K&E

He's "of counsel." K&E has over 1200 attorneys and many of them have been at the firm longer than Starr (who first associated with KE in 1993). I daresay that the vast majority of KE's attorney have never even met Starr. Among the many attorneys at the firm are a number of loyal and generous Democrats. A quick search on opensecrets found that one attorney in the DC office has given Democratic candidates and party organziations over $20,000 in the past couple of election cycles.
