someone says something way out-of-line in a Post, you refer to it immediately after in Reply as well as mention it to another Poster down-thread. And then the Original Poster goes back, edits out the offensive part and then claims it never happened and calls you a liar! I think every DUer can commiserate with writing, in anger, something and then going back after more thought and editing it away. But it takes a different kind of monster to think twice and wisely edit and then accuse you of dishonesty.
How do you guys handle something like that? And can the Mods do anything to prove or disprove the Original Post and the editing of it?
We demand honesty from our Candidates. Why can't we get it from each other?
Just curious.

in my opinion a cop-out. I don't want to edit those out of my DU experience I disagree with. Much can be learned from them. The larger issue, I think, is the honesty of the Poster and proving that something was written.
The Poster can clear this up with a "yeah, wasn't thinking clearly and I did say that. My bad" and most DUers would understand. But to then disparage the honesty of someone else by claiming it never happened even though it clearly -- with regards to the Reply and the conversation down-thread -- did is something else altogether.

I hope I didn't sound ungrateful. I thank you for your reply and was only attempting to explain why I hesitate to use the Ignore Function. I apologize if it came off as some way other than intended. I appreciated you chiming in.

| 3. Copy the out-of-line post immediately, |
|
then alert. If it's edited then you can copy and paste the original in your response.

| 7. after my response at 1:24 PM |

the Poster edited it at 1:36 and then claimed, in a Post at 1:35 now deleted by the Moderator, that I was making it up. If it wasn't said, then what was Edited?

that takes a snapshot of what is on your screen. I use a small program from Hyperionics called Hyper Snap in my graphics and web work. http://www.hyperionics.com/

Forget it and move on. So you prove it. How does that change the world as we know it? So you can't prove it. How does that change the world as we know it.
The only thing on the line are egos, and egos are hardly worth defending.

is always worth defending. Especially on a board filled with hyperbole and spin like DU. In my family, we were raised to be honest people and it was instilled in us to defend it. At the end of the day, one's ability to be honest in the eyes of those who know and love you is all one has.
