| What do you see in Gephardt |
|
*Warning* this is not a flame
Just out of curiosity, with providing any proof, what positive feelings do gephardt supporters have? What do you like about him?

but not even that can help him anymore. The first big batch of primaries, including the MO one, should help him, but after that, not much.

I think with him as president, working people would have a powerful representative in Washington.
I think he'd be very effective too, due to his experience.
Also, he's likable. I'm so sick of our president being an asshole.

Gephardt knows how to get things done in Congress. He is also able to garner support from people who are conservative -- yet he embraces liberal ideals.
I think he is the most underated candidate out there.

| 4. Clark's ideal running mate |
|
Would've been Dean's, too, but that bridge has probably been burned.
Reasons:
*Missouri would be an incredible electoral college catch. His mere presence on the ticket would force the Pubs to devote resources to an area they probably think is in the bag.
*Union ties mean big voter turn-out.
*Ideal running mate for any outsider who'd actually like to accomplish something in Cockroach Land. Knows the Hill inside-and-out and is respected by those few Republicans left whose respect is worth having.
*Is not despised by the mainstream media.
*Outperforms Lieberman in the Cheney debate re-match.
*Is a good man, full stop.

| 15. I agree, this is our strongest ticket |
|
Even though Gep's war stance bothers me, this is the guy who could seal the election with a Clark-Gep ticket.
He will snare Missouri and help with Iowa, Arkansas, West Virginia and Ohio.
His candidacy would energize the unions, bringing out thousands of workers, and would enhance the ticket's domestic policy credentials.
From a sheer pragmatic standpoint, this is our strongest Democratic duo.
From a money standpoint, Kerry, without his campaign spending limits, must be left in the mix.

but I don't see him as being a powerful "force" I could get behind. He's done all the right things to be a contender, but he's just not gonna make it.
I'd like to see him run for the Senate and be a power there.

When he's trying to make a point. Gep's a good guy but this country has only elected three (3) legislators to high office. It doesn't bode well for the Congressman.

In a nutshell:
1. He's been the best friend labor has had in a long time. 2. He has a plan to cover every American, employed or unemployed, young or old. 3. He has an "Apollo 21" program to end dependence on Middle Eastern oil within 10 years via the use of renewable energy (wind, solar). 4. He has a Teacher Corps, similar to the ROTC. 5. Perhaps most importantly, he's one of the most charismatic men that I've ever met. In fact, just a few hours ago, I met him. My grandmother got on the front page of the Nashua Telegraph while she was out campaigning for him. He signed a copy of the paper for her.

|
and for what I see as crossover appeal to swings and conservatives. I think the International Minimum Wage is an idea whose time has come and could possibly solve a lot of the world's problems as well as our own. I am also a bit prejudiced because I got a chance to personally bellow at him over IWR and he took it well, explained his actions but didn't apologize. I don't agree with him on that issue but I think the guy's a decent fellow and I think he's got good roots.

Gep is great, and this is the one issue that will beat Bush, IMO.
I think he would do best in a VP role, however.

but I see Gephardt as perhaps the strongest possible candidate in the general election.
His labor record will energize that key constituency. Environmentalists and African-Americans have nothing to criticize in his record, either, as far as those issues go, so they should be enthusiastic too. He has long Washington experience and respect on both sides of the aisle, and in both houses of Congress.
He is certainly one of my finalists, along with Clark and Dean.
