Out here in California

...I live in a tiny county, but one that one of the most conservative voting records in the state. Bush barely gets more votes ( a few hundred) than all the democrats combined. That's not including other parties such as green, peace & freedom etc. This is unheard of here. This is a good sign. If he can barely hold on here in freeperland...... the tide indeed may be changing.

3. Remember * was not running against anyone else.....

....so there might not have been a very big turnout for Republicans....although, they may have come out to support the Governator's two props.....but if you took that into account, this is great news! I also live in a very Republican county....big in size, but not population.....(Siskiyou) and round about figures was all Democrats had 4700 votes to Bush 5120.....and that's not counting the other parties. Really close! Good news! Hopefully!

With Gallegos being able to avoid being recalled (THE NO RECALL GALLEGOS WON!! :toast: ), I'd say we have some major progress in this neck of the woods.

5. I want to be hopeful also

I am clinging to the idea that the most conservative have been losing elections. McClintok only picked up a handful of votes in the recall. Mathys lost his bid for the repug state seat. I still see that CA is voting as it usually does, a majority of the counties and land mass is voting repug, while the population majority is voting Dem. There was a Dem contest between Kerry, Edwards, Kucinich and Sharpton listed on the ballot, yet 30%+/- showed up today, even with ballot measures. That is what scares me. If Bush was the given winner and out polled Kerry who was in a contest for the Dem nod what does that tell you. It makes me think that Kerry does not have enough spark to even set a can of gas on fire. Record voter turnout in states prior to today. If it was ABB then that seems to have died. If it was enthusiasm for the candidates running that seems to have gone by the wayside. I think Kerry may have clinched the Dem ticket today, but I don't see any enthusiasm for those people left in the field. Hard core republicans have not been winning in CA, yet Bush out polled Kerry. There has been talk of Mayor Rudy taking Chenneys place and that may spell disaster for the Dems. Sure that will piss off the fundies, but it will play to the swing voters and a larger chunk of society.

The work needs to be done and it is a daunting tasks that lies ahead of us. Don't give up hope or over estimate your abilities, just be realistic about the task ahead.

7. Like I said, it will piss off the fundies

the Bible thumpers and their ilk. It will pick up the centrist vote, the swing vote etc.... I was reading exit interviews of people prior to todays voting from place like NV and WI and that really scared me. 13% that voted for Kerry voted for him because of his issues. 44% voted for him because they thought he was the on that was most likely to win anyway. So all it takes is one good media story or GOP lie on Sunday and on Tuesday 44% of Kerry's base votes Bush. That translates into a 70-30 landslide for Bush. Take out the pissed fundies and it may go 55-45 Bush. Don't over estimate abilities. I also feel that the GOP is a wounded, cornered animal. They will chew off a limb to get free, and fight you to the death if they have to. I for one will not misunderestimate Bush ever again. I will not be shocked if Bush runs with Rudy and I will not be shocked if he puts Jeb in a cabinet position to set up the '08 run.

Pissed off fundies, or a majority of the votes? GOP will pander to the majority, then go back to doing what they were going to do anyway.
