| 13. I've posted this elsewhere ... AREN'T WE BEING TERRIBLY SHORTSIGHTED IN BOYCOTTING MOVE-ON ??? |
|
I worked with Move-on in 2004 as a precinct leader and I know firsthand we had a real impact in WI going "Blue" for Kerry/Edwards. Move-On has made it clear that irrespective of their endorsement they will support financially and organizationally the democratic nominee. And frankly, Coulter-Rush-Hannity sniping notwithstanding, it is highly unlikely that Republican in-fighting will lead to a November cake-walk. We will need Move-on to win. So while I can understand the indignation and anger -- and the need to vent it now -- I can only hope that once this winter of partisan discontent is over we can join ranks again. As a new member of DU, I know I don't need to remind anyone here of the stakes.

They must have known this was coming, and decided to support a nominee before the primary. I can only assume they don't care if I leave. So...bye now.

the one on one Presidential debate between Obama and Clinton. This is an organization that prides itself on helping to keep progressives informed but they couldn't wait 12 hours for all to watch the debate before asking us to choose one over the other?

| 21. Welcome to DU, and thank you for your fine work with MoveOn! |
|
I was a MoveOn precinct leader in 2004 as well. I continue to be shocked and amazed that so many DUers are entirely ignorant when it comes to the kind of work MoveOn does, not to mention the fact that MoveOn membership does in fact endorse Democrats in contested congressional primaries, this time using the amazingly high supermajority bar of 66%... a bar Senator Obama had no trouble reaching.
And I was shocked that either of them reached it. When I voted, I was convinced MoveOn would again decline endorsing as they did in '04, when Howard Dean fell just a few points short of the 50% bar set back then.
Again, a hearty welcome to Democratic Underground! It's great to have real activists here.

I received my ballot at Noon on Thursday, January 31st (central time) and was informed that I would have until Friday, Feb. 1st at 11 a.m. (eastern time) to vote. I received an e-mail immediately after voting, which gave me a link to change my vote until 11 a.m. eastern on the 1st. The original e-mail also stated that a sample of voting move-on members would be called by phone to verify their vote. For that reason, all voters were required to list a phone number where they could be reached. (which, of course, would not be shared or stored).
Again, I understand the anger over the endorsement and applaud the passion for our candidates that it represents. But I don't think attacks on the endorsement process are just or constructive. Unfortunately, the democratic process all too often hinges on the "majority" vote of a minority of eligible voters.

Based on the e-mails I've received from Move-On since the endorsement, they are emphasizing mobilizing Move-on members to get out and vote in the primaries. Given the proximity to Super Tuesday, I'm not sure if Move-On can do anything now that will significantly affect Tuesday's primaries and caucuses. So the question remains: what will they do after Tuesday if the delegate count remains close between Clinton and Obama?
